A friend recently recommended this poem…Love After Love by Derek Walcott. I love the words…and I think it perfectly fits with what we are doing at Tom Bagby. Its about meeting yourself again…and loving yourself and your life. Here it is…
The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
Powerful. Isn’t it? Because after all, in the day-to-day and month-to-month of life’s demands and careers and caretaking and opinions of others…don’t we lose ourselves and the feeling of our worth and beauty…inside and out?
We recently photographed Annabelle LaRoque of Laroque on Devine Street. If you don’t know her…she is a big deal! Not only is she a fabulous clothing designer and boutique owner (her clothes are stylish, fresh and sophisticated)…but she is vivacious and sweet and has a sure sense of self…beautiful inside and out. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and photographing her. Here are some of her images…
